Conversations With Celeste

Who Is On Your Team?

Not everybody can go where you go. You cannot take everybody with you. Not everybody is on your team. Pay attention to the conversations you have and the comments people make. Words have power and sheep sometimes come in wolves’ clothing. Your sheep hear your voice and a stranger they will not follow so when you see them go astray, rejoice, let them and just be happy that they went away.

As you embark on your journey to greatness and find your place and purpose in this world, you will discover who is sincere about you and your dreams. You will find that in some instances those who you thought were on your team played so you would lose and those you never saw were actually cheering you on. Pay attention! Your team is important because no man is an island and those who win in life really did not win alone. There was always a support system behind the scene.

Some people think that they cannot cheer, support or like more than one player at a time. I find this so sad. You can like Kobe and LeBron. They both play the same sport. They play it differently. They are both winners who represent and serve different states. Why can’t you like them both or at least respect them both. They are both excellent at what they do and there is no denying that. Again, I ask, why do you have to choose? Why is there always a comparison of the two? Why does it matter?

If you are in the midst of walking in your destiny and fulfilling your purpose and find yourself standing alone, do not fret. Pray. God will reveal your team members. Do not beg people to stay. Recognize their roll in your life. Their season may simply be over. Let them move on and you do the same. God will send people with the talents, gifts and creativity you need to help the vision become a reality. Trust Him and receive them with open arms. When kingdom business is conducted by kingdom people who are assigned and sent by the King, God’s glory will manifest in the earth. Praise Him for choosing you to be the vessel. You are on the winning team…

Do you know who is on your team?

Don't Quit! You Win!

When I woke up this morning I was thinking about what I like most about me. I like...no I love the fact that I am not a quitter. Most people choose to be bound by the circumstances of life. Trust me when I say that life has dealt me some hard blows. It was how I chose to deal with the blows that matter. Most people choose to complain and quit. I made a conscious decision to face my issues (and I have had many) and push forward. I decided that I would control them and that they would not control me. No matter how long it takes me to accomplish my goals; I always accomplish them. I never quit. If you’re going to run the race you might as well finish it. If you get tired; stop and catch your breath and then keep on running. If you stumble; get your balance and then keep on running. If you break your leg; go to the doctor, get patched up, recuperate, get better, and then keep on running. NEVER EVER QUIT! Cross the finish line. You don’t know what is on the other side of the line. There is victory once you cross the finish line and you never have to look back again. You should always finish and finish strong.

It took me 10 years to complete my BA. Yeah I know. The important thing is that I completed it. I could not pass College Algebra. I took it and dropped it every semester until it was the only class I had left. To say I was frustrated is an understatement. My son was in the seventh grade and we were doing the same algebra work. He could do it and I could not grasp it. It was like Chinese to me. I simply did not understand what number and letter combinations put together in an equation had to do with me writing short stories and poetry. So I created a mental block for myself. I know this because in high school I passed it with flying colors. I had not intellectualized it in my head at that point.

I could have let that defeat me. I mean really…10 whole years. My friends had completed undergraduate and graduate school. They were starting practices, opening businesses and taking Corporate America by storm. I was still trying to get through this one class. I felt sooooo dumb and stupid. My 12 year old kid could do the work so that must have meant that I was the dumbest person in the world. It made me so mad. I knew I was smart. Then a friend (now my pastor) told me that somebody had passed the class before so that must mean that somebody can pass it again. People were praying for me. My friends were tutoring me in person and on the phone. I was going to the Math Lab on campus and it just was not registering with me. Then something inside of me got stirred up. My child was not going to go to the next grade in Jr. High School and leave me behind in college. That was not an option. I took the class again at the community college and I had a fabulous teacher. She was patient and she worked with me. Believe it or not; when she left my desk I could still do the work without her standing beside me to explain every step. I passed College Algebra with an A and obtained my BA in English with a minor in Psychology. I now have a MBA (That experience is a whole other story….2 years not 10).

I could never have gotten the Master’s without first acquiring the Bachelor’s. I had to follow the process. I did not give up, cave in and quit. I never cried “woe is me”. I dusted myself off every semester and said “ok Celeste let’s try this again”. I kept going back until I received victory. I felt and feel such a sense of pride and accomplishment. That was such a stressful period in my life and what message would I have sent to my son if I had quit. Side note…somebody is always watching you. So you have to always do your best to live and be a good example. You can’t; you must never quit. You owe it to yourself and everybody who is watching you to finish the race. You never know how your journey might inspire the next person to continue on. Quitting should never be an option unless you hear a word from God.

You Win! Don't quit. Finish the race and finish strong. You are a winner. Your name is VICTORY!!!

This is what the Word has to say:

1 Corinthians 9:24-27 (The Message)
24-25 You’ve all been to the stadium and seen the athletes race. Everyone runs; one wins. Run to win. All good athletes train hard. They do it for a gold medal that tarnishes and fades. You’re after one that’s gold eternally.
26-27 I don’t know about you, but I’m running hard for the finish line. I’m giving it everything I’ve got. No sloppy living for me! I’m staying alert and in top condition. I’m not going to get caught napping, telling everyone else all about it and then missing out myself.
